What is a Level Transmitter?

Level transmitters transmit information about the movement of the surface to the controller, which in turn directs control valves according to the given parameters.

Capacitive Level Measurement

Capacitive level measurement is a common principle for measuring surface height in industry. The sensor and the tank form the two electrodes of a capacitor. The change in capacitance caused by the change in surface level is converted in the electronics into level information, and the sensor transmits a 4-20 mA signal to the system.

For continuous level measurement, GESTRA utilizes a capacitive electrode with an integrated active transmitter (output signal 4-20 mA) or a separate amplifier, whereby communication between the sensor and amplifier is in digital form. The GESTRA surface electrode is intended for liquids with a conductivity of at least 0.5 µS/cm. The sensors’ pressure/temperature class is max. 32 bar(g)/238°C, PN 40.

Pressure-Differential Based Level Transmitter

Pressure-differential transmitters and flange-mounted level transmitters are suitable for the same applications as electrode-type sensors, as well as for applications where, for example, non-conductive liquids, chemicals, etc. are measured, or where the required pressure/temperature resistance is too high for electrodes. Models available for connection to 4-20 mA Hart, Profibus PA, or FF-bus.

Magnetic Level Transmitter

The magnetic float transmitter is installed at the top of the tank or at the tank side. Various connection options are available. The magnet inside the float creates a magnetic field to which reed switches respond, enabling continuous level measurement.
