What is a mixing cooler?

The blowdown collection tank, i.e. the mixing cooler, is used to cool down hot waste water before it is discharged into the sewer.

Typical applications include, for example, process plants that generate hot waste water from their processes, and steam boiler plants, where the boiler’s cooling water is cooled with untreated water while simultaneously recovering the mixing cooler’s expansion steam.

Selection of a mixing cooler

We assist in selecting the appropriate blowdown collection tank according to the requirements of the application.

The GESTRA we represent manufactures VDM mixing coolers. It is important to note that when GESTRA VDM is used to cool boiler cooling water with cooling water, sludge may form due to the precipitation of carbonates. This can be prevented with regular cleaning of the device or by adding acid.
