What is a self-cleaning filter?

A weakness of traditional filters is the need for manual cleaning, especially in processes where the filter clogs quickly or its cleaning is particularly difficult or requires special safeguards.

In such cases, for example in front of heat exchangers or in seal water, a self-cleaning filter can be used.

Selection of the Self-Cleaning Filter

The operation of the SCHÜNEMANN filter we recommend is based on Bernoulli’s principle. As the flow rate increases, the pressure drops. The pressure differential increases as the filter becomes clogged, until the pressure switch initiates an automatic flushing process.

The SCHÜNEMANN filter is suitable for almost all types of industrial and process waters. The filters are made of stainless steel, acid-resistant or coated steel, PVC, or reinforced plastic, which can also withstand corrosive media.

Compared to the traditional filtration process, the operation of an automatic filter is continuous, enabling it to clean process water without production interruptions in all installation orientations.

The filters are Ex-protected and meet ATEX requirements.

Each filter is sized according to the application. For sizing, we need the following data:

• medium
• filtration grade
• design pressure
• design temperature (min./max.)
• operating pressure
• flow rate (min./max.)
• pipe line DN size
• allowed pressure drop
• is it air pressure or electric control?
• does the control come from the customer’s system or do we supply the control center?
• pipe material
