Plug valves operate similarly to ball valves. Instead of a ball, a wedge-shaped plug—with a drilled flow opening—functions as the closing element.
There are both soft-sealed and metal-sealed plug valves.
A soft-sealed plug valve is excellent because there is no free space between the plug and the body, unlike, for example, in a ball valve, as it is completely sealed with lining.
This feature is beneficial because if the process medium contains sand-like particles, they could flow into the intermediate space (cf. ball valves) and quickly damage the seal.
The advantage of a metal-sealed plug valve is its higher pressure and especially temperature resistance.
The valves have the following approvals: TA-Luft, AD-2000/TRS-Nr. 45, Fire-Safe API 607, and UOP.
Plug valves are available in multi-stage versions and can be equipped with pneumatic or electric actuators.
We assist in selecting and sizing a plug valve that meets the requirements of your application.
AZ-Armaturen’s two-way valve has received UOP approval and is thus suitable for HF alkylation processes as well as applications involving, for example, hydrofluoric acid.
