Maximum temperature: +380 °C
Other names: water-bath desuperheater
The steam desuperheating system consists of a tank with an integrated nozzle mechanism for cooling superheated steam using a water bath. The system is suitable for applications where an efficient solution is required for converting superheated steam into saturated steam.
Steam desuperheaters are available for different load requirements in both horizontal and vertical versions. The equipment is dimensioned individually according to the application and process, and they meet the key thermodynamic requirements to achieve optimal performance.
The maximum temperature for superheated steam in the system is +380 °C. Superheated steam is directed through the nozzle into the tank’s water bath, where it releases part of its energy while vaporizing the cooling water, thereby forming saturated steam. The residual moisture in the steam is at most 2%.
The steam desuperheater is equipped with an integrated droplet separator that prevents cooling water from entering the steam line during maximum loads. A level measurement electrode, NRG or NRGT, detects the cooling water level, and the electronic control unit ensures that the vaporized cooling water is replaced with additional water. The cooling water is supplied at the required overpressure to the lower part of the tank via a control or solenoid valve. If the temperature of the incoming steam is particularly high, the tank’s cooling water must be preheated.
The water bath type steam desuperheater is the only steam cooling system that produces saturated steam over the entire 0–100% control range.
