What is a gas alarm system?

A gas alarm system – also known as a gas leak alarm system – provides safety for all gas users. In premises where gas is used or stored, a functioning gas leak alarm system is required by law and regulations. The same applies to premises through which gas pipelines run. The gas alarm system is an important part of the equipment ensemble that makes your gas system safe and reliable under all conditions.

Choosing a Gas Alarm System

Our range includes high-quality gas detectors and alarm systems from German GWS. GWS alarm systems can be equipped, if necessary – for example, based on the size of the premises – with an appropriate number of sensors as well as the desired number of sirens and warning lights. The alarm can also be forwarded to a process control system or another similar information system.

We also supply alarm systems to monitor systems other than land and liquefied petroleum gas systems. For example, processes that involve the use of oxygen or where carbon monoxide or some other harmful gas may accumulate are very typical targets for alarm systems.

We assist in selecting a gas alarm system that meets the requirements of the application. Contact our representatives for more information.

What is an air heater?

The space to be heated influences the choice of the appropriate air heater. In industrial halls and large spaces, supply air heating is often the best solution, whereas in confined spaces, a recirculating air heater may be considered.

Air heater selection

We assist in selecting an air heater that meets the requirements of the application. Ask our contacts for more information.

Supply air heating – devices for heating replacement air flows

When an industrial hall or another large space requires a significant amount of replacement air, for example due to processes that heavily soil the air, centralized supply air heating is often the most sensible way to implement heating. The advantage of gas-fired supply air heating is its excellent efficiency, and the supply air heaters we provide comply with current energy efficiency directives.

We supply the MARK GC series supply air units that are installed adjacent to the wall, with the heated replacement air brought from outside directly to the unit via a short duct. GC heaters are also suitable for decentralized supply air heating implemented with multiple units. The exhaust gases from the heaters can be directed straight into the heated space or, if necessary, channeled out through the wall. Because the devices have a completely closed air circulation, they are also well-suited for spaces where the air is dusty or otherwise dirty.

Supply air units are typically suitable for heating large air flows, and thanks to a powerful radial fan, the supply air can be conveyed through a duct.

Recirculating air heaters

Recirculating air heaters are particularly suitable for low spaces with many shelves or other structures that compartmentalize the area. A recirculating air heater is easy to install, for example, high on the wall where it does not interfere with other activities. The fuel for our imported air heaters can be natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas. The exhaust gases can be directed either straight into the heated space or, if necessary, away from the space. In the summer, the heaters can also be used solely as blowers. The unit power range of recirculating air heaters varies from 15 kilowatts to 150 kilowatts.

Axial fans are used in recirculating air heaters, which circulate the air in the space without causing excessive and disruptive blowing.

What is a Radiant Heater?

Radiant heaters are particularly well-suited for heating large spaces, but a radiant emitter is also an excellent choice as a target heater. Gas-fired radiant heaters can be effectively used in many different processes where the target needs to be heated. Radiant emitters have been supplied, for example, for asphalt modification, steel heat treatment, and fish smoking processes.

Infrared heaters

Infrared radiant heating is an energy-efficient and comfortable way to heat large spaces. The energy efficiency of radiant heaters is based on the fact that conditions at the workstation can be maintained at a comfortable level without the need to heat a large mass of air unnecessarily.

Radiant Heater Selection

The ceramic radiant heaters offered by Mark Climate Technology are especially suitable for heating spaces. HOAF Infrared Technology manufactures steel mesh radiant emitters designed for process heating and, for example, as portable target heaters.

We also deliver ready-made packages that can be assembled according to the customer’s needs. In addition to the radiant heater, the package may include, for example, a gas hose, a pressure regulator, a hose failure valve and/or a steel protective frame. Additionally, our range includes a movable radiant heater with its own legs that is equipped with a tip-over protection device. These radiant heater packages are ideally suited, for example, for construction sites.

What is a Pressure Regulator?

In land, liquid, and biogas applications, a pressure regulator is a device that reduces the gas pressure to a desired set pressure regardless of possible fluctuations in the inlet pressure.

Almost all pressure regulators of this type are self-powered and spring-operated. In larger sizes, a pilot regulator, which is integrated into the main regulator body, is often used.

Pressure regulation typically also includes safety devices required by law. There are many pressure regulators on the market that have an integrated safety shut-off and/or auxiliary safety valve in the same body.

Selecting a Pressure Regulator

When selecting a pressure regulator, the following should be taken into account:

  • Minimum and maximum inlet pressures
  • Design pressure of the pipeline
  • Highest and lowest flow rate
  • Operating medium
  • Temperature ranges
  • Appropriate materials
  • Equipment sizing considering the above factors

Our offerings include, among others, Dresser Actaris (formerly Itron), whose manufactured regulators are used very extensively in Finland. Among these, the most commonly used in smaller sizes are the 133 and 233 series regulators, and for larger applications, the RB 1700/1800, RB4000, RB4700 series as well as the RR16 series.

In addition to Dresser regulators, our selection also includes many other pressure regulators from various manufacturers, so that we can meet customer needs as well as possible.

We help you choose a pressure regulator that meets the requirements of your application. Ask our contact persons for more information.

Technical Specifications

Other names: volume compensator, volume measurement, volume converter

What is a Volume Converter?

Natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas are compressible media, so in metering for billing purposes, pressure and temperature must be taken into account. The volume converter provides a pressure- and temperature-compensated measurement of the gas volumetric flow.

The measured natural gas volumetric flow is converted to normal conditions (0 °C and 1.01325 bar). In precise measurements and large volumes, it is essential to also consider the compressibility factor. The gas meter provides a volumetric measurement to the volume converter, and the converter calculates the compensated measurement value. This information can be transmitted from the volume converter, for example, as a milliamp signal or as a pulse to a data logger.

Volume Converter Selection

We assist in selecting the volume converter that meets the requirements of your application. Please ask our contacts for further information.

Other names: rotary gas meter

What is a rotary meter?

Rotary meters are suitable for situations where a compact installation and accurate measurement result are desired. A silent section is not required before or after the meter in the pipeline.

The Uniflo and Delta series rotary meters are volumetric meters. The measurement technique is based on the movement of two octagon-shaped pistons. These displace a fixed volume of gas per rotation depending on the meter size.

Selecting a rotary meter

Rotary meters provide billing-readable meter readings and work well even in situations where the gas flow is weak or uneven. Thanks to the volumetric operating principle, the installation conditions do not affect the accuracy of the meters. The meters can be installed in both horizontal and vertical pipelines.

We assist in selecting a rotary meter that meets the requirements of your application. Ask for more information from our contacts.

What is a turbine meter?

The operation of turbine gas meters is based on the speed at which gas flows through the meter relative to the rotational speed of the turbine blade. Through a combination of a shaft, gear train, and magnetic coupling, the information is transferred to the counter. Since the gas volume is calculated from the flow rate, the flow conditions must be as optimal as possible. Turbine meters therefore perform best when the flow is relatively steady and calm.

Selection of the Turbine Meter

Factors influencing the selection of the meter include, among other things, the gas operating pressure, flow rate, installation location, and continuity of the flow.

We assist in choosing the remote control device that meets the application’s requirements. Ask our contact persons for more information.

For natural gas, biogas, biomethane, and liquefied petroleum gas

The versatile connection options of turbine meters include, among others, various pulse/port outputs. Depending on the gas quality, the meters can be equipped with either durable lubricant bearings or manually lubricated bearings. For corrosive gases, a PTFE-coated version is available.

For small flow rates, it may be worth considering a rotary piston meter.

Dresser Actaris Fluxi 2000/TZ meters are flow meters used to measure medium to large gas flows under medium to high pressure. The meters are optimized for use in all operations related to gas transmission or distribution. Various models are available with capacities ranging from 100 to 10 000 m³/h. Fluxi 2000/TZ meters are suitable for billing purposes.

MZ turbine meters are slightly less expensive than the TZ series and are well suited for self-monitoring and internal inspection measurements when there is no need for billing-grade measurement.
